Hindsville — Home of War Eagle Mill

Hindsville sits in the rolling hills of northwestern Madison County, along War Eagle Creek. The community is small in population but outsized in cultural significance: it's home to War Eagle Mill, one of Arkansas's most beloved landmarks, and host to the War Eagle Craft Fair — one of the largest and oldest craft fairs in the central United States.

War Eagle Mill: The current mill is the fourth one to stand on this site since 1832, the others having been lost to fire and flood over the generations. The current mill still grinds grain using water-powered stone burrs and sells stone-ground flours, mixes, and grits in its on-site store. The Bean Palace restaurant on the second floor serves traditional Ozark fare with a creek view that's worth the drive on its own.

The Craft Fair: Each October, the surrounding fields fill with hundreds of artisan vendors for the War Eagle Craft Fair, drawing visitors from across the country. The fair runs alongside its sister fairs at Sharp's Showcase and at the Frisco Station Mall in nearby Rogers, and the entire region around Hindsville comes alive for the event.

The community itself: Outside of the mill complex, Hindsville is a quiet, scattered rural community. Properties are mostly small farms, single-family homes on acreage, and seasonal cabins. The War Eagle Creek and its tributaries provide some of the prettiest scenery in the county, and several outfitters and local guides operate in the area.

For new residents: Hindsville offers a rare combination of rural quiet and steady visitor traffic, which has supported a small but genuine arts and crafts culture in the area. Property in Hindsville tends to be highly desirable, and listings — when they appear — don't last long.
